Marketing
Your Site Online
Before you start
marketing your site on the Web, make sure you've created a great-looking
and useful Web site that will attract visitors and keep them coming back.
(That's our department!) Use our tips to keep your visitors coming back
to your site - remember - the number of sales you have is usually a percentage
of the number of visitors you have to your site - the more traffic your
site attracts, the more sales you are likely to make. To get new
visitors to come to your site, we've compiled a list of valuable resources
to help you market your site online and increase traffic.

Getting Better Ranking in Search Engines
There is no easy way to get listed near the top of a Search Results page,
and no-one can GUARANTEE you a top position on a non-paid search engine,
but we can definitely guarantee that we will do all we can to get you
listed as high as possible.
What are
meta tags?
Meta tags are HTML tags that help you control how some search engines
may index your site by using keywords and descriptions you provide (see
example below).
Using Meta
Tags
It is possible for you to control how your site is indexed to some degree
by using meta tags to specify keywords and a short description that you
want search engines to index. Basically you should write a list of words
that are related to your business and that people browsing the web might
use to find you. These are the words that we will then submit to the search
engines.
Here's an example
of keyword and description meta tags for a photography books page. Make
sure your most important keywords are also contained in your title. Search
engines sometimes prioritize by page titles.
<HEAD>
<TITLE>Kelly's Digital Photography Book Reviews & Resources</TITLE>
<META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="Photography books, digital cameras,
book reviews, digital graphic design, discounted books, photography
manuals, photo editing, new technology">
<META NAME="description" CONTENT="A photography resource page including
digital photography book reviews and cutting edge photography news and
information.">

Banner & Link Exchanges
It certainly doesn't hurt to try these services because they are typically
free. The banner exchanges usually give banner impressions in return for
impressions you produce for them. The ratios for the number of impressions
you'll get for the number of impressions you generate will vary from service
to service. In some situations, however it may not be professional for
you to have banners on your site, so you might want to try a paid banner
campaign where you pay to have your banner (which we can create for you)
placed on other people's sites but no banners are placed on your own site.

Newsgroup Discussions
Newsgroups are a great place to make yourself visible in your Web site's
interest area and to position yourself as someone who has knowledge and
interest in a certain subject area. For instance, if your Web site is
about stamp collecting, you should follow and respond to Stamp collecting
newsgroups. As your "calling card," have your URL and a sentence about
your site or your slogan in your signature block of your e-mail. Here's
an example:
John Doe
Website Name
http://www.yourdomainname.com
The ultimate Stamp Collectors site
While this
is a good way to let others with similar interests know about your site,
stay away from posting commercial messages when posting to newsgroups--that's
a big no-no in the online world. It is considered Spam (unsolicited commercial
e-mail), and your inbox may fill up with heated messages from newsgroup
members.
Join
Web Rings
Web Rings allow you to join groups of Web sites with similar interest
areas and link together to trade visitors and drive new traffic to your
site, thus allowing visitors already interested in your site's subject
matter to find your site easily.

Your Own Newsletter
Starting a newsletter for your site is a great way to create repeat visitors
by keeping them up-to-date and coming back for more. Make sure your newsletter
contains useful information, updates regarding your site, editorial, book
reviews, etc., and not only a link to your site. Keep it informative and
don't clutter your recipient's inbox with too many newsletters--they'll
appreciate hearing from you more!

Your Own Domain Name
Getting your own domain name gives your site added credibility and can
help you get listed higher in search results. Make sure the name you pick
is a logical name pertaining to the subject matter of your site and isn't
too long to remember or easy to misspell. Then it also makes sense for
you to send email using your new email address as that helps to further
brand your site - in remembering your email address or simply receiving
email from you, your clients or potential clients are further exposed
to your domain name and are thus more likely to remember it in the future.
